Senior Utilities Plant Operator

The City of Modesto is currently accepting applications for vacancies in our Wastewater Division.

The Senior Utilities Plant Operator is responsible to perform lead work in the operation and maintenance of the City's wastewater or water production/treatment plants.

The class is distinguished from other classes in the Utilities Plant Operator series by acting as a shift supervisor as defined by the applicable state agency and codes and collaboratively with other senior operators. When not acting as the shift supervisor, the Senior Utilities Operator performs the more complex and difficult assignments.

The Senior Utilities Plant Operator is distinguished from the Utilities Plant Operations Supervisor in that the Senior only provides lead/indirect supervision for the work performed on an assigned shift whereas the Supervisor is a full supervisory class responsible for the full range of direct supervisory responsibilities.

Experience:

One year of specialized experience at a level equivalent to Utilities Plant Operator II in the City of Modesto

OR

Three years of increasingly responsible experience involving water or wastewater system construction, maintenance and repair at a level equivalent to Utilities Service Worker II in the City of Modesto.

Training:

Equivalent to a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate.

License or Certificate

Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.

Possession of an appropriate, valid Class B Commercial California Driver's license with specific endorsements, as assigned, within ninety (90) days of appointment. Failure to obtain the required license may result in release from probation.

Possession of a must possess a Grade III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate from the State of California at the time of hire.

Failure to obtain any of the required certificates within the prescribed time will result in release from probation or termination.

Additional Requirements:

Must be a minimum 18 years of age at time of application.

It is the applicant's responsibility to fill out the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application with complete information and adequate detail. Do not substitute any part of the application with the words "SEE RESUME."
