OCSD is currently looking to fill the role of a Senior Engineer.

Under general direction, performs a wide variety of highly advanced and highly complex engineering duties involving control systems applications and design for wastewater treatment processes and collection systems including execution of multi-phased project design, development of process control software, configuration, testing, simulation, commissioning of facilities, start-up, field troubleshooting and integration of advanced control systems; provides conceptual input and develops and creates original designs of unique process control schemes for very large Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects; serves as subject matter expert on plant SCADA system processes, projects or programs; leads development teams for CIP Projects; researches complex problems and conducts development of original software standards and templates; oversees development of and performs detailed reviews of engineering design submittals and studies; and performs detailed reviews and provides comments for construction submittals. Other duties include collaborating with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance and external design consultants on establishing the required level of automation, technical content of associated design drawings, real I/O and databases, and developing operational philosophies and control strategies, programmable logic controller flowchart and code, and HMI software and documentation standards.

Qualifications & Requirements

The successful candidate must possess a valid Professional Engineering (PE) registration from the State of California. This candidate must have eight years of increasingly responsible engineering experience including three years at a level comparable to an Engineer at the District. Experience in developing process control software including PLC code and HMI configuration and graphics for large CIP projects, designing process control systems, reviewing design and construction submittals, developing commissioning plans, and starting up and commissioning highly complex projects for wastewater treatment systems are essential. Additionally, experience with Modicon ProWorx NxT and Unity programming software, communication protocols including Modbus, Modbus Plus, Modbus TCP and other industrial Ethernet protocols, and Wonderware software or similar are highly desired. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Excel, Word and Access are also highly desired.

Hiring Salary Range: $119,496 - $131,768
(starting salary will be within these ranges based upon qualifications)

Supplemental Information

Must possess mobility to work in and around District facilities; ability to travel to various District sites, projects and/or meetings; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform moderate to heavy physical work, to work in confined spaces and around machines, to climb and descend ladders; to operate varied hand and power tools and equipment; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; color vision to discerns electrical wires and gauges; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. The job involves fieldwork requiring frequent walking in operational areas to identify problems or hazards. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate above-mentioned tools and equipment. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb to perform work and inspect work sites. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push and pull materials and objects weighing up to 40 pounds, or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment.

Employees work in and around facilities and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road hazards, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives, and contractors in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.

All Orange County Sanitation District employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the Orange County Sanitation District requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
