Lift Station Maintenance Mechanic

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Skilled work in the general and minor repair and maintenance of the wastewater collection and transmission system, wastewater plants, and other City equipment. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Wastewater Systems Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Performs mechanical and electrical service work on all lift stations, low pressure pump stations, collection system valves and components.
2. Repairs utility vehicles and equipment.
3. Performs welding and other fabrication functions.
4. Documents and maintains accurate records of all equipment maintenance.
5. Responds to trouble alarms during normal working hours and after hours.
6. Performs other such duties as may be delegated from time to time.
7. Must be willing to work on-call rotation and able to respond to trouble calls within 40 minutes of initial notification.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

Knowledge of construction, assembly, adjustment, and maintenance of a wide variety of wastewater lift station equipment.
Knowledge of all types of shop tools.
Ability to follow directions and have a mechanical aptitude.
Ability to perform minor repairs on lift station control panels.
Ability to diagnosis trouble alarms on lift stations.
Ability to weld.
Ability to perform minor vehicle maintenance.
Knowledge of operation and maintenance of pumps, valves and other process equipment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

A high school diploma or GED required, with a DEP collection system certification or other water/wastewater certification preferred, or the ability to become DEP certified within 2 years.

(A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES OR REGISTRATIONS:

Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Florida Drivers License.
Must possess ability to become certified as a Wastewater Collection and Transmission System Technician within 1 year of employment.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:

Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).
Acceptable hearing (with or without correction).
Heavy (45 pounds or over) lifting and carrying.
Reaching, pulling, pushing.
Climbing, walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, bending, balancing, stooping.
Distinguish colors.
Equipment Operation.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Work inside.
Works outside in various weather conditions with: noise, dust, fumes, grease or oils, electrical energy.
Slippery surfaces.
Works around moving rotating equipment.
