Water Treatment Senior Project Engineer
Salary Range: To Be Determined Note: An Employee hired into this Exempt position is eligible to participate in Colorado Springs Utilities Pay for Performance program. Employees in this classification may receive a performance pay award based on a percentage of salary up to 14%, dependent upon the successful completion of a predefined performance plan. New employees hired prior to July 1, 2007 are eligible for a prorated award for the 2007 calendar year. Employees hired on or after July 1 may participate during the 2008 calendar year. Responsibilities and Duties: This position is in the Infrastructure Planning and Design Section, Planning and Engineering Department in the Water Services Division. This position will be responsible for performing alternative analyses, design and project management of projects at our wastewater and water treatment plants. A major focus for this Sr. Project Engineer will be our existing wastewater treatment plant due its age and infrastructure. Primary job duties include: Working with others within Springs Utilities, consultants, contractors and the public to develop solutions to immediate and long-term issues faced by the wastewater and water treatment plants. Coordinating projects with others within the organization including Water Treatment, Planning & Engineering, Environmental Services, Water Supply and Water System Maintenance. Gathering information and performing alternative analysis to develop cost-effective solutions. Creating designs for smaller projects within the treatment plants. Participating in design review of the more complex projects within the treatment plants. Selecting and managing engineering consultants on projects. Considering existing and future regulatory constraints when developing solutions. Coordinating with local, state and deferral regulatory agencies. Researching innovative solutions. Remaining current with emerging treatment technologies. Creating thorough reports documenting finding and recommendations. Required Skills, Knowledge, and Competencies: Knowledge of systems and components within treatment plants, including pumps, piping, blowers, fans, vacuums and filters; chemical processes including treatment, disinfection, nutrient removal and odor control; mechanical components such as clarifiers, solids removal grit chambers and step screens; electrical components including motors and controls; plant automation Environmental regulations as related to water and wastewater treatment plants Previous experience coordinating with local, state and federal regulatory agencies Project planning experience Project management experience Technical research and report writing Ability to work on projects independently Determining area of improvement or greater efficiency Building consensus and resolving conflict Balancing multiple assignments Communicating effectively ? verbally and in writing Producing quality, accurate, prompt and reliable results Relevant Background: This position requires a Bachelor?s Degree in engineering (civil, mechanical or chemical) and seven or more years of professional level experience in the design and/or operation of wastewater and/or water treatments plants. Registration as a Professional Engineer is desirable. Maintaining a valid Colorado Driver's License is mandatory. A little bit about our city: Colorado Springs is nestled at the foot of Pikes Peak .
