Under supervision, performs a variety of tasks involved in the maintenance of water lines and well water systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1. Performs the reconditioning of wells using super chlorination, phosphate treatment, and/or high levels of compressed air for scouring. Responsible for monitoring adjusted chemical levels during chemical processes and for returning raw water to original state while complying with EPA, State, and Company environmental regulations.

2. Performs preparatory work prior to well reconditioning and assists with scheduling of tasks. Gathers data such as well construction yield information, pump and motor sizes, and volume of water available on site for work. Assists with coordination and/or hauling of portable tank with booster pumps if necessary to maintain system pressures. Hand delivers temporary conservation notices to customers if needed.

3. Installs liners with packers, open-ended liners with or without screens, inflatable packers, and/or gravel sections.

4. Troubleshoots electrical motors, starters, capacitors, breakers and associated wiring in both high and low voltage environments to determine if a replacement is needed.

5. Performs the removal and installation of well pumps and motors as projects require. Acts as a resource to other departments for pump and motor training.

6. May assist with well drilling inspections and/or grouting of well casings on wells which require it.

7. Performs well abandonments as needed.

8. Functions as a team member to maintain and make repairs to distribution lines.

9. May function as a team member in video camera operations. May provide video services for contract operations.

10. Ensures the cleanliness and maintenance of any assigned vehicle, tools or equipment, including overseeing the maintenance of pump trucks, grouting machine, and video camera with Supervisor's input.

11. Maintains a safe working environment and reports safety violations to supervisor.

12. Serves on Emergency Call duty.

13. Continues to maintain and search for new methods of increasing productivity and quality in the most cost effective manner within department.

14. Duties performed outdoors with exposure to the elements, dirt, dust, noise, odors and potentially hazardous substances and conditions and may involve work in confined spaces.

15. Performs other duties or special projects as requested related to the area of responsibility.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

? Safe and practical use of basic hand and power tools
? Safe and practical operation of boom truck, backhoe, and air compressor
? Uses sound judgment in the decision making process
? Understanding of water chemistry, biology, and well system operations
? Basic maintenance and repair knowledge of hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems.
? Knowledge of backflow prevention and backflow devices
? Able to load, unload and movement of equipment and tools weighing up to 100lbs.
? Use of precision measuring instruments.
? Visual acuity and attention to detail
? Basic mathematical skills
? Knowledge of functions, policies and procedures of department.

? Map reading or knowledge of facility locations.
? Frequent contact with Customer Service, Construction, and Maintenance employees. Contact with customers, contractors, inspectors, vendors, representatives of other utilities and regulators requiring common courtesy and good interpersonal skills.


SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL OR REGISTRATION QUALIFICATIONS

High School graduate or GED required. Minimum of six months related experience required. ?C? Well certificate preferred. Must be able to obtain ?C? Well certificate and Well Contractor?s Certificate within 2 years of hire.
Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record. Will require a class "A" CDL license within 6 months of hire.
