Facility Operator - NC07055
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 1. Performs scheduled plant inspections, and serves as Operator in Responsible Charge of assigned systems. 2. Monitors gauges, meters and control panels; and controls variations and operating conditions of the treatment process. Records meter and gauge readings. 3. Operates and maintains valves, motors, pumps and engines either manually or by remote control. Monitors and adjusts plant operations manually. 4. Extracts samples and performs routine laboratory tests, documenting and certifying test results. 5. Performs change-out of chemical containers as needed. 6. May perform other utility related work including renovation and maintenance of lift stations, completing service orders, and monitoring and maintaining collection systems. 7. Maintains various plant records and reports. 8. Ensures that plant facilities and grounds are kept clean, neat and orderly. 9. Evaluates equipment to ensure efficient operations. 10. Ensures the cleanliness and maintenance of any assigned vehicle, tools or equipment. 11. May train others in proper procedures related to responsibilities. 12. Maintains a safe working environment and reports safety violations to supervisor. 13. Serves on Emergency Call duty. 14. Continues to maintain and search for new methods of increasing productivity and quality in the most cost effective manner within their department. 15. Performs other duties or special projects as requested related to the area of responsibility. 16. Duties performed outdoors with exposure to the elements, dirt, dust, noise, odors and potentially hazardous substances and conditions. Duties may also involve work in closed spaces. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Safe and Practical Use of Simple Equipment or Hand Tools, Such as Wrenches, Shovel, Pick, Hammers, Saws, Chisels Adhere to Safe Driving Practices Good Physical Condition to Enable Loading, Unloading and Movement of Equipment and Tools Weighing Up To 150 lbs. and Continuous Walking, and Lifting of Objects Up To 50 lbs. Attention to Detail Safe and Efficient Methods of Loading and Unloading Trucks and Equipment Map Reading or Knowledge of Facility Locations Common Courtesy in Answering Basic Questions from Customers Basic Maintenance and Repair Knowledge of Mechanical and Electrical Systems Procedures for Reporting Accidents Basic Mathematical Skills Diagnose, Analyze and Correct Problems in Wastewater Systems Use of Precision Measuring Instruments Pump Station Maintenance, Repair and Replacement (Electrical and Mechanical) Knowledge of Functions, Policies and Procedures of Department Familiarity with Company Forms Required for Related Work Interpersonal Skills SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL OR REGISTRATION QUALIFICATIONS: High School graduate or GED equivalent preferred. A minimum of two years of plant operations experience required. Grade II certification in the Wastewater field required. Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
